One of the things that the German homeschoolers do not have, are materials to help them understand how the lifestyle of homeschooling could work - books that offer them ways in which they can effectively extend the raising of their children to academic areas as well. Remember my request previously?

That is until now...

In a project of mammoth proportions (or at least in my mind) Common Sense Press have allowed the translation into German of their book "How to Home School" by Gayle Graham.

This book was pivotal in gently setting my foundations when I first started homeschooling and it was an obvious choice.

Well actually it was my second thought, not that it was inferior at all, but only that it is HUGE (and the other choice was very short!), and I didn't know how it could be done.

That is until I thought of the many many German speaking people out there that may be able to translate a single page each - then it seemed do-able. Its about 180 pages.

So to this end I am asking anyone who would like to be involved in the project to drop me a line through the contact form please.

When completed this work will be freely available as a wiki book to all German homeschoolers everywhere.

An incredibly enthusiastic thanks to Common Sense Press for their generosity and sharing this vision and to Gayle Graham who took the time to share her advice and family with us all.

This bouquet is for you!

While I am at it, if there is anyone willing to volunteer for a bit of desktop publishing, I'd like to design a bookmark for International Freedom in Education Day on the 15th, and I'd love a logo for this blog! Hey, there is no harm in asking, is there?

The Status Quo

For those new to the situation in Germany: home educating is (perceived as) illegal.

The common citation for forced school attendance is to protect against parallel societies.

Educating Germany discusses arguments for (and against) legalising home education in Germany.

We report on human rights violations; provide translations of media articles, interviews, court hearings and personal stories into English; and suggest practical ways people, internationally, can lobby for change and support those who long for freedom of education.
