Angel wishes This post (hopefully the first of a series) has been opened up to any resident or emigrated German homeschooler or proponent of learning freedom that wants to express their christmas wishes. They speak for themselves:

Dear Friends of Educational Freedom, We wish for a fair education requirement in the Federal Republic of Germany and the fall of Nazi-forced school attendance, so that innocent children can again experience joy in learning. That can only come about, when we all work together for the rights of the children and the important institution of the family, showing that we as parents play a crucial role for the future of the country. Merry Christmas and a healthy year in 2009. 'A family from Hessen'.

The Status Quo

For those new to the situation in Germany: home educating is (perceived as) illegal.

The common citation for forced school attendance is to protect against parallel societies.

Educating Germany discusses arguments for (and against) legalising home education in Germany.

We report on human rights violations; provide translations of media articles, interviews, court hearings and personal stories into English; and suggest practical ways people, internationally, can lobby for change and support those who long for freedom of education.
